He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Walter Benton and Kathleen Benton (Bemis); his sons, Joseph and Michael; his wife Ruby Nelson; his daughter Janet; his sister Maybel; and his daughters-in-law, Janet (Lulu) and Deborah. He was also cherished by three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
