He was predeceased by: his parents, Jessie Lard and Ruby Baskins Lard; his sister Wanda Gasque; and his granddaughter Mary Katharine Chappell. He is survived by: his wife Judy Richards Lard; his children, Dustin Lard (Amy) and Telete Lard Chappell (Scott); his stepdaughter Trina Holden Reynolds (John); his brother Glenn Lard (Susan); and his grandchildren, Jake Reynolds, Ann Whitney Chappell, Seaborn Chappell, Matthew Lard and Benjamin Lard.
