He was predeceased by: his parents, Curtis E. Dowdy and Jewel E. Dowdy; his daughter Pamela Rich Townsend; his siblings, Floyd, Jimmy Dowdy and Barbara McMurtrey; and his nephew Curt Dowdy.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Dowdy; his daughter Lori Kaye Newell (Benjie); his son-in-law James Townsend; his brother Gene Dowdy; his grandchildren, Courtney Warden (Andy), Teddy Schell (Stephanie), Ryan Gattman, Katherine Gattman (Jake), Lane and Cade Newell; and his great grandchildren, Tripp, McKensie, Henry and Owen Schell.
