He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Bruce Akins, Sr. and Janeth Ruth McGuffin Akins; his great grandchildren, Aliya and Janeth Todd; and his brother Steve Teel Akins.
He is survived by: his wife Ruby Akins of Roanoke; his children, Amy Akins of Roanoke and Edward Bruce "Eddie" Akins, III (Johnnie) of Roanoke; and his siblings, Sara Akins (Odell) of Lanett, Ann Daniel (Elmer) of Lanett and Stiles Akins of Lanett. He is also survived by four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
