He was predeceased by: his parents, Franklin Byars and Pauline Byars; and his siblings, Edrelle Dillard, Ezelle Reed and Jimmy Byars.
He is survived by: his wife Donette Byars; his children, Joey Byars (Linda) and Debbie Hughes (Steve); his stepdaughter Amye Jo Nichols; his grandchildren, Crystal Kaiser (Nick), Ashley Byars, Andrea Gibson (Michael), Hanna Hussey and Aleah Byars; his great grandchildren, Gaige McCollum, Lila Kaiser, Waverly Gibson and Reign Kaiser; and his friend Greg Gilpin.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
