He was predeceased by: his parents, William Broadus and Mary McAlister King; his son Russell King; and his grandson Baines Lathbury. He is survived by: his spouse Claudia Elliott King; his daughters, Karen Kirk (William), Carol Diedrich (Joakim) and Gina Lathbury (Sean); his stepchildren, Sally and Rob Branham; his grandchildren, Katie Kirk, Erik Diedrich and Andrew Lathbury; and his sister Joyce Barrett.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Scotsman Club at Presbyterian College or to Laurens County Hospice.
