She was predeceased by: her husband James R. Dean; her parents, Johnie E. Smith and Johnnie Williams Smith; her brother Jerry E. Smith; her siblings-in-law, Clyde Dean, Jack Dean, Rex Dean, Byron Justice and Carolyn Justice; her nephew Jerry Alan Dean; and her niece Sherry Dean.
She is survived by: her daughter Rita Dean; her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Smith, Rejina Dean, Jean Tice and Fay Smith; and her nieces and nephews, David Smith, Greg Dean, Roger Dean, Mickey Justice, Jim Helms, Melinda Smith Yu (Chang), Margaret Justice Taylor, Mary Justice Lane and Maria Justice Coté (Craig).
Visitation was held on Monday, October 28th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel (1315 Harris Hwy, Slocomb, AL 36375). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 29th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Samaritan's Purse/Hurricane Helene relief for North Carolina (samaritanspurse.org) in honor of Mrs. Dean's love for the North Carolina mountains.
