He is survived by: his mother Cynthia Smith Bates; his sisters, Morgan Bates and Mallory Bates; his grandparents, James and Francis Gunnin; his niece Iris Lance; and his nephew Fenton Lance. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousin and other family and friends.
