He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Farrell and Mildred Farrell; his wife Joan; his children, Terri Russell (Bob), Joan Simkins, Judi Simkins and John J. Farrell; his grandchildren, Cherie Edwards, Carrie Ray (Andy), Nicholas Farrell and Keldon Simkins (Hillary); his great grandchildren, Alyssa Edwards, Sean Edwards, Mila Ray and Loralei Ray; his brothers, Jeff, Stephen, Billy and Tommy Farrell; his pet Peanut; and his sisters, Joan Tuke and Judy Zimmerly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in John's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
