He was predeceased by: his siblings, James Portwood, Mason Portwood, Glen Portwood and Frankie Haveard. He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Smith Portwood of East Brewton; his children, Scott Emmons of East Brewton, Camellia Hall (Jeff) of Brewton and Jennifer McLellan (Ray) of Brewton; his sisters, Mary Ellen Godwin (Clyde) of East Brewton and Betty Hammac of East Brewton; and his nieces and nephews, Bama and Roger Cash. He is also survived by Grandchildren (12) Great Grandchildren.
