He was predeceased by: his parents, Ira Downey and Mildred Allen Downey; and his grandparents, Robert, Ostella Baird Downey, James William Allen and Ellen Estes Allen.

He is survived by: his wife Doris Barnett Downey; his children, Gina Downey Ganey (Ronnie Joe) and Scott Downey; his grandchildren, Andrew Ganey (Lindsay) and Sarah Beth Ganey; and his cousin Diane Harbison Stringer (Ed).
