He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Spurgeon Howell, Sr. and Irene Hawkins Howell; his wives, Sarah Smith Howell and Gladys Pilcher Adams Howell; and his brothers, Samuel Spurgeon Howell, Jr. and Charles Stanley Howell.
He is survived by: his daughter Cynthia Howell Saunders (Gregg Schneider); his sisters-in-law, Evelyn King of Dothan and Sandra Windham (Sterling) of Dothan; his grandchildren, Theo I. Howe and Rachel E. Saunders; and his nieces, Julie Fletcher (Mark) and Terri Alcorn (Scott).
