She was predeceased by: her parents, Walter Carroll and Mary Carroll; her sister Joyce Roberts; and her daughters, Linda Bailey and Kathryn Samford.

She is survived by: her son Richard Baron Whitson; her grandchildren, Morris Elam, Jack Elam, Gregory Samford and Jennifer Samford Donnelly; her son-in-law Preston Samford (Donna); and her close friend Nellie Austin (Jackie). She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
