He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Johnston and Dora Helena McAlpine; and his brother William Johnston "Bo" McAlpine. He is survived by: his wife Anna McAlpine; his children, John M. McAlpine, Jr. (Mandy), Mary McAlpine Long (William) and James "Jim" McAlpine (Stephanie); his stepchildren, Staci A. Curtiss (Russ) and Allan Allday (Carrie); and his brother Robert Watson McAlpine (Betty). He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
