He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Joseph Gilbert and Louise Emily Compo Gilbert; his wife Irma Kathleen O'Reilly Gilbert; and his sisters, Jean White, Joan Fazio and Louise Burhyte.
He is survived by: his children, Mike Gilbert, Jeff Gilbert (Cheri), Debbie Green (John) and Diane Donahue (Tim); and his grandchildren, Dr. John C. Green, Jr. (Kelly), Ashley DeAndrade (Kevin), Kathleen Wideman (John), Gerald J. Gilbert (Amanda), Michael Gilbert, Kristen James (Kirk), Tim Donahue, Jr. (Kacey) and Elizabeth Veres (Nick). He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.
Due to the COVID-19 virus, the family will hold a private funeral service on May 29, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Leo Catholic Church followed by a private graveside service at Demopolis Memorial Gardens, with the Very Rev. Justin Ward officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes, Demopolis Chapel directing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Leo's Catholic Church.
