He was predeceased by: his parents, William Eugene Smith and Verna McCary Smith of Randolph, Alabama.; and his sister Gail Smith Ulmer. He is survived by: his sister Gayle Smith Ulmer; his wife Joy E. Smith; his children, Erica Gully (Ben Mayton) and Scott Parten; his grandsons, William Gully, Charlie and Carson Parten; his brother-in-law Paul Ellis (Ileana); his nephew Sam Ulmer (Heather); his great-nieces, Jade and Savannah Ulmer; and his great-nephew Gus Ulmer.
