He was predeceased by: his parents, Mildred Lively Olinger and Raymond Esco Olinger. He is survived by: his wife Joan Slaten Olinger; and his sons, Jim Olinger, Tim Olinger (Deana), Phil Olinger (Mary Gail) and David Olinger (Missy). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of North Alabama.
