He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Hillis and Ruby Blalock Hillis; and his siblings, Ron, Gary Hillis, Darlene DeWitt, Judith Black and Dana Tripp.

He is survived by: his wife Benita Atchley Hillis; his siblings, Eddie Hillis, Lynn Kelso and Faye Davis; and his sister-in-law Karen Hillis. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
