He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Clinton Whitmer and Eileen Miriam Whitmer; his grandparents, George Raymond Smith, Susan Ann Smith, Frank B. Whitmer and Florence Whitmer (Wagman); and his siblings, George Whitmer and Linda Cotrell.

He is survived by: his children, Candy, Muffin, Mindy, Meggie, Nicki, Krissy, Robin Waldrop (Mike) and Kim Roberts (Charlie); his grandchildren, Charles Joseph "C. J." Roberts (Mikayla Vandiver), Kaitlyn Roberts Higdon (Jake) and Sarah Waldrop Holmes (Brett); and his sister Brenda Whitmer. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
