He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Gerald Wells and Bessie Lou Corum Wells; his brother Billy Wells; and his in-laws, Hollis and Ruby NeSmith.

He is survived by: his wife Carolyn NeSmith Wells; his daughters, Emily Gardner (Bo) and Leslie King (Mark); and his grandchildren, Max, Sam Gardner, Lily and Eli King.
