He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude Lee Herndon and Carrie Bell Hamm Herndon; his siblings, Iva Faye Herndon and Teddy Wayne Herndon; and his daughter Margaret Diane Herndon Duke.
He is survived by: his son Darrell Charles Herndon (Martha Hanson); his grandchildren, Allison Duke Bridges (Jonathan "Mark"), Laura Duke Broom (David), Chelsea Herndon Warner (Randy) and Graham Hanson Herndon (Hallianne Hobson); his great grandchildren, Harrison Bridges, Camille Bridges, Henry Bridges, Evelyn Bridges, Charlotte Broom and Jane Broom; his son-in-law Wendell Duke; his nephews, Steve Quick and Greg Quick; his niece Paula Stanford McAlpine; and his great-niece Amanda Quick Hendrix (Daniel).
