He was predeceased by: his parents, Cleavon Powell and Myrtle Evans Powell; his son Michael David Powell; and his siblings, Grady Lee Powell, Maggie Smith (Oland), Jack Powell (Christine), Olon Powell (Margie), Grover Powell (Jeanie), Mildred Ann Johnson (Frank), Virginia Byrd (Clarence) and Emma Lee Heritage (Johnnie).
He is survived by: his wife Muriel Stanton Powell; his children, Darrell Powell (Mylene) and Susan Brown (Mark); his brother Calvin Powell (Sue); his grandchildren, Justin Hannah (Allison), Jacob Taylor and Kaylee Powell; and his great grandchildren, Cadance Hannah and Sydney Hannah. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
