She was predeceased by: her parents, Marvin Newman and Ada Mae Douglas Newman; her son James Edward Cureton; her former husband John Edward Cureton Sr.; her husband Valgene Weldon; and her sisters, Jeanette Douglass, Carolyn Newman and Betty Newman.
She is survived by: her children, John Cureton Jr., Connie Carrasco (David) and Denise Davidson (Boyd); and her siblings, Diane Pelham (Joe), Martha Andrews and Marvin Jackson Newman (Sheila). She is also survived by eight grandchildren, and twenty-eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
