He was predeceased by: his parents, John Mortimer Hicks and Ruby Lee Lackey Hicks; and his sister Mary John Hicks. He is survived by: his wife Mona Walker Hicks of Ashland; his children, Summer Birchfield (Jason) of Leeds, Winter Seals (Ryan) of Ashland and Jacob Hicks (SueAda) of Roanoke; his grandchildren, Brighton Birchfield, Addyson Adams, Aria Hicks, Curtis Seals and Ruby Hicks; and his brother Billy Hicks (Betty) of Talladega.
