Bertie Nickolson Obituary
Mrs. Bertie Ann Nickolson of Childersburg, 66, passed away at her home on April 15, 2017. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty years, Kelly Nickolson; her parents, Denson and Ann Stroud; and her brothers Donnie and Tommy Stroud. She is survived by her daughters, Tracy Gordon (Jack Wagstaff) of Odenville, Kelly Rachell Shaw (Arnold) of Sylacauga, and Jennifer Harris (Gary) of Childersburg; grandchildren Josh, Katie, Spencer, Kelly, Amber, Amy, Madison, Brittany, and Tyler; great grandchildren Katmai, Evelyn, Kaylee, and Gus; sisters Betty Schultz of Wetumpka and Mary Baugus of Orangeville, IL; and brother Ronnie Stroud of Indiana.
Mrs. Nickolson was the second of six children and was raised in rural Coosa County, where she enjoyed climbing trees, swimming in the creek, and sliding off the barn roof with her siblings. She devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed whooping her grandchildren at Scrabble and gin rummy, cheering for them at ballgames, rooting for Daryl and Carol on the Walking Dead, walking her Yorkshire terriers, being the only one who could touch her evil-demon cat Gracie, traveling to new places, and especially attending family gatherings.
She loved Hershey Kisses and made the best homemade biscuits and tomato gravy in the world. She was a long-time employee of Wal-Mart in Sylacauga, where she brightened the lives of customers and coworkers, most of whom simply knew her as "Miss Bertie." She was a Christian by faith.
