He is survived by: his wife Bobbie Jean Powell; and his children, Debra Haywood (Steve) of Forrest Park, GA, Charlene Averette (Mike) of Marion, AL, Melvin John Powell (Melissa) of Centreville, AL, Larry Smith of McCalla, AL and Doug Smith (Robbie) of Centreville, AL. He is also survived by 7 sisters, 2 brothers, 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
