He was predeceased by: his wife Artie B. of Washington; his grandchildren, Myeeshia of Washington, Danny, Jr of Washington and Martinez of Washington; his siblings, Magnolia Kennon, Dorthy Mae Landrum, Lou of Washington and Jay of Washington; and his parents, John Rains and Dora Rains of Washington.

He is survived by: his children, Billy (Helen) of Gadsden, Walter of Atlanta, Johnny Ray of Centre, Danny (Queen) of Centre, Ernest of Birmingham, Pamela of Gadsden and Greta of Leesburg; his brothers-in-law, H. C. Johnson (Mildred) of Centre and Leroy Johnson of Texas; his sister Eva Ragland of Ohio; his sister-in-law Ethel Carson Johnson of Centre; and his close friends, Terry Dupree and Georgia Hunter. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.
