He is survived by: his wife Linda Garrett; his children, Katrina Carter Johnson (Charles) of Cedar Bluff, AL, Paige Carter Wright (Tim) of Cheraw, SC and Jeffrey David Carter of Cedar Bluff, AL; and his siblings, Ann Burnette, Martha Jane Thompson, Mary Frances Carter, Billy Carter and Roy Carter. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
