He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael Johnston and Elizabeth Johnston; his wife Emma Johnston; and his siblings, Samuel, Prince, Ester, Martha and Mamie.

He is survived by: his daughters, Michelle Ross (Derrick) and Danielle Stringer (Charlie Smith); his grandchildren, Devin, Zachary, Kennedy, Kaitlin and Elle; his sisters, Rachel Sullivan, Linda Prine (Leonard), Anna Taylor (Armond) and Ann Carter; and his caregiver Belinda Johnston. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
