He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil D. Cowart and Frances M. Cowart of Calera; his sisters, Cecile Lochridge of Huntsville and Jeffie McLemore of Moulton; and his wife Betty Rylant Cowart.

He is survived by: his daughters, Stephanie (Fred Iffland) and Sambo. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Steve's memory to Calera Baptist Church or the Shelby County Humane Society.
