He was predeceased by: his parents, Elbe Buchanan and Elizabeth Martin Buchanan; his siblings, James Buchanan, Verna May Lindsey and Lucille Atchison; and his grandsons, Jeff Jenkins and Brad Jenkins.

He is survived by: his wife Verla D. Buchanan; and his sons, James Buchanan (June), Brad Buchanan (Jessica), Kenneth Buchanan (Maria) and Kevin Buchanan (Chasidy). He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
