He was predeceased by: his wife Patsy Mathis; his parents, Clarence Mathis and Sarah Mathis; and his brother-in-law Carl Campbell. He is survived by: his sons, Michael Mathis and Richard Mathis (Wendy); his siblings, Robert Mathis (Diane), Cecil Mathis (Linda), Calvin Mathis (Ann) and Edith Coffman; his grandchildren, Michael Mathis Jr., Jennifer Mathis and Drew Mathis; and his great grandchildren, Paris Mathis, Gavin Mathis, Ashley Hill and Madison McCrary.
