He was predeceased by: his wife Edna Odean Smith Wilson; his parents, John Sr. Wilson and Annie Mae Wilson; his siblings, Russell Wilson (Martha Wilson), Bernice Putman (Claude) and Kathy Garner; and his sister-in-law Wynness Smith Koger (Wayne Koger).
He is survived by: his daughters, Iris Wilson Jones (Jackie) and Johnnie Wilson Morgan (Wendell); and his grandsons, Garrett Wilson Jones and Heath Bryant Jones (Amelia). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Wears Chapel Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
