He was predeceased by: his parents, Dub Cooper and Betty Cooper; his parents-in-law, Joe Jr. and Ruby Massey; his brothers-in-law, Mickey White and Jim "Cuz" Toney; his niece Brenda Kirk; and his nephew Christopher White.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Cooper; his sons, Jonathan Cooper (Meagan Willis) and Eric Cooper (Alex); his grandchildren, Maddix, Addison, Kaitlynn, E. J. Cooper and D. J. Hutchins; his siblings, Dale Cooper (Leda), Linda White, Wayne Cooper (Anita) and Phillip Cooper (Lynn); and his friend Royce Armstrong. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
