He was predeceased by: his parents, William Thompson of Washington and Gertrude Brackin Thompson; his siblings, Merle Thompson Jones (Carlton), Jean Thompson Bailey (Paul) and William Earl Thompson (Betty); and his wife Margie Ruth Payne.
He is survived by: his children, Anna Renee Thompson (Chad), Ella Renita Thompson and Richard Ray Thompson Jr. (Tommy); his grandchildren, Jason Pierce (Cary), Brittnay Green (Josh), Courtney Hammac and Daniel Chavers (Mandee); his great grandchildren, Tyler Pierce (Brianna), Tate Green, Aiden Chavers, Katie Morton and Turk Morton; his great great grandchildren, Daxton Pierce, Amiyah Suggs and Karter Faircloth; and his caregivers, Lily Hendrieth, Joy Oliver and Ann Allen. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews and other beloved friends.
