He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew Merritt and Annie Kent Merritt; his son Marty Jackson Merritt; and his sisters, Genevia Merritt and Ruthie Coleman.
He is survived by: his children, Elizabeth Ann Rose (Bill) of Jacksonville, AL and Mark Merritt (Anna) of Mount Jackson, Virginia; his sister Esther Mae Coleman of Castleberry; and his grandchildren, Jesse Rose, Cody Rose, Ashley Nelson, Kristal Perez, Leandra Merritt and Kristy Merritt. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren.
