It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Bennie Lewis of Brewton, Alabama, who passed away on March 27, 2025, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. As we bid Bennie farewell, let us not mourn the absence of his physical form, but rather celebrate the essence of his spirit that lingers in the spaces between moments. For Bennie is not truly gone, but merely transformed, his energy intertwined with the fabric of the universe itself, forever dancing among the stars.
He was predeceased by: his mother Cora Lewis Perryman; his wife Gwendolyn Bournes Lewis; and his siblings, Larry Perryman and Lora Perryman. He is survived by: his children, Renetta Hammler, Louis Bournes (Melissa), Xanthippia Bournes Green (Jamal), Jonathan Saul and Bennalyn Ingram; his stepsons, Clarence and Jerome Bournes; and his grandson Alonzo Bournes, Sr.. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, April 12th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the New Light Baptist Church (1435 Feliciana St, New Orleans, LA 70117). A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 12th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
