He was predeceased by: his son Roman Bowlan; his parents, Walter Bowlan and Kathlene Sorrells Bowlan; and his brother Donnie Bowlan. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Bolding Bowlan; his children, Sherry Bolding (Kalup Lewis), Mitchell Bowlan (Martha), Sandra Cook (Marcus), Samuel Bowlan (Kamelia), James "Bubba" Bowlan (Jessica) and Jennifer Penn (Scott); his grandchildren, Shawn Bolding, Linsley Bowlan, Brett Bowlan, Miranda Wolfe, Brittany Wolfe, Hailey Bowlan, Hannah Bowlan, Brooklyn Bowlan, Presley Bowlan, Jackson Bowlan, Kimberly Jones (Darian) and Rebecca Penn; and his siblings, Lamar Bowlan and Dorothy Bowlan. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
