He is survived by: his close friend Ernst; his wife Patricia Floyd Merrick of Blountsville; his sons, Dwight Merrick of Florida, Stephen Merrick (Cathy) of Birmingham and Rodger Merrick (Laurie) of Colorado; his grandchildren, Matthew Merrick (Jennifer) and Heather Murphy (Tim); his great grandchildren, Hayes Carter Murphy, Rylee Evelyn Murphy and Morgan William Merrick; and his stepdaughter Cherie Brooks.
