He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Mildred Smith; his parents, Hosea McCardle and Lois Wells McCardle; and his son-in-law David Marshall McDonald. He is survived by: his grandchildren, Jennifer Lovett, Janie Carol Carson, John Michael McDonald, Kimberly Michelle Turner, Alexis McCardle, Benjamin Michael McCardle, Marri Helen Taylor and Richard "Richie" Wells McCardle, Jr.; his great grandchildren, Caiden Marie Lovett, Savannah Leigh Turner, Lochlann Marshall McDonald and Jeremiah Lee Taylor; and also, Elizabeth Earl McCardle McDonald, Richard Wells McCardle and Michael Wayne McCardle (Jie).
