She is survived by: her children, Portia Williams, Megan Williams, Jasmine Williams-Scott, Jonathan Williams (Michelle) and Nolfris Williams (Charisma); her grandchildren, Jonathan Williams, II, Jason Williams, Isaiah Williams-Scott, Sarah Williams-Scott, Charon Burton, Robert Williams, Joshua Williams, Leah Thomas, Grace Williams, Jordan Williams, Stephen Williams and Keonnie Polion; her brothers, Marvin Williams and William Williams; her nieces and nephews, Rose Britton, Charmaine Ward, Angela Burns, Sherice Carter, Marvida Williams, Darryn Britton of William Williams, II, Ashton Williams, Julian Williams and Taylor Williams; and also Valorie Blackmon. She is also survived by other relatives and friends.

Shirley collaborated with several institutions for her research including the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Argonne National Laboratory, National Science Foundation, Tulane University, and the Louisiana State University Medical Center.
