It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John M Black of Birmingham, Alabama, who passed away on February 22, 2024, at the age of 96, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgar Black and Florence Black; his wife Mary Black; his daughter Elaine Jolley; and his siblings, Joe Black, Eula Layton, Mamie Weathers and Margaret Hazen.

He is survived by: his daughter Phyllis B. Shannon (Johnny); his grandsons, Michael Jolley (Deanna), John Shannon, Brad Shannon and Matt Shannon (Stephanie); his great grandchildren, Lauren Jolley, Layla Jolley, Nate Jolley, Noah Hove, Jonah Hove, Evan Shannon, Rasmus Frazier, Zimri Hill and Bellamy Shannon; and his brother Eugene Black.
