He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Franklin Payne, Sr. and Ellen Gaynell Knox Payne; and his siblings, Robert Franklin Payne, Jr., Evelyn Ruth Payne, William Lee Payne, Clifford Hardy Payne, James E. Payne, Nellie Jane Payne, Doris Jean Payne, John Donald Payne and Wendell V. Payne.
He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Payne; his sons, Joseph Douglas Payne (Melissa) and William Lewis Payne (Jessica); his grandchildren, McKinnley Douglas Payne, Ian Cullen Payne, Maura Kay Payne, Elias Benjamin Payne (Joe) and Alex Christian Payne (William); his great grandchildren, Max Christian Payne and Jaxon Tyler Payne (Alex); and his sisters, Sarah Payne Reedy and Carolyn Payne Duke (Wayne). He is also survived by nieces, nephews.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, April 23rd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Holy Cross Episcopal (90 Parkway Dr, Trussville, AL 35173).
