He was predeceased by: his wife Dorothy Cochran Hayes; and his son Gary Wayne Hayes. He is survived by: his daughter Tina Long (Steven); and his daughter-in-law Lisa Hayes. He is also survived by six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren (who called him "Ole 'Pa") and several nieces and nephews.
