He was predeceased by: his parents, John M. Bagwell and Edna Dye Bagwell; his wife Kathryn Rapp Bagwell; his son Dudley John Bagwell; and his sisters, Faye McInnish, J. Foy Smith, Edith Oliver and Yvonne Bagwell.

He is survived by: his brother Doyal D. Bagwell; and his grandson Daniel Bagwell. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
