Though Mattie may no longer walk beside us, her memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Mattie touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In her absence, her spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
She was predeceased by: her husband Joseph "Joe" Byrd; her children, Lousie Byrd Johnson and Joe Franklin Byrd; and her grandsons, Willian Anthony Johnson and Joseph Coy Johnson.
She is survived by: her daughters, Helen Cowart (Jimmy) of Bay Minette, AL and Lisa Cook (Thomas) of Bay Minette, AL; her brother Gray Turner (Shirley) of Perdido, AL; and her grandchildren, Carla Robinson, Joseph Cook, Donald Johnson and Dayton Cook. She is also survived by sixteen great grandchildren and twenty great great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Saturday, April 5th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Norris Funeral Home (402 E 2nd St, Bay Minette, AL 36507). A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 5th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
