He was predeceased by: his parents, Margaret Benton and John Robert Rice; and his siblings, Timmy Broughton and Donna Broughton Taylor. He is survived by: his wife Shona Chastang of Whitehouse Fork, AL; his children, John Broughton, Jr. (Megan) of Foley, AL, Cody Broughton (Michelle) of Robertsdale, AL, Chassity Broughton Richardson of Mississippi and Jessica Froseth (Nicholas) of Mobile, AL; and his siblings, Sean Rice (Stephanie) of Bay Minette, AL and Teri Benton of Elberta, AL. He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
