He was predeceased by: his wife Betty Joyce "Presley" McDowell; his daughters, Deborah McDowell Stephens and Donna McDowell; his sister Eria Lee "Cumbie" McDowell; and his parents, Alex McDowell, Sr. and Rosie "Blackmon" McDowell.
He is survived by: his son Larry McDowell (Tracy) of Pine Grove; and his caregivers, Linda Stewart, Marilyn Williams and Terri Hendrickson. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great great grandchild.
