He was predeceased by : his brother John M. Mitchell. He is survived by : his mother Claude M. "Boots" Mitchell; his son Justin; his daughter-in-law Natalie; his grandchildren, Eli, Brennan and Aurora; his siblings, Angela Calhoun (Porter) and Grady (Arlene); his nieces, Grace Calhoun, Maria Mitchell, Elise Walker and Julia Washburn; and his cousin Gayle (Bill Berry).

Visitation was held on Saturday, June 29th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home (1500 Frederick Rd, Opelika, AL 36801). A funeral service was held on Saturday, June 29th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, June 29th 2024 at the Garden Hill Cemetery (1218 Frederick Rd, Opelika, AL 36801).
