He was predeceased by: his wife Florence Lorraine Barrett; his adoptive parents, Zachery Ramsey and Alma Ramsey; his birth mother Mertle Elloise Hall; and his sister Phyllis Ann Moss.

He is survived by: his children, David Michael Hall Jr. (Valerie Zegarelli), Mary Elisabeth Rease (Randy Keith Rease), Alma Jane Knuth (Richard George Knuth) and Florence Courtney Evermon (Darin Wendall Evermon); and his grandchildren, Claire Cumbee Robinson, George Hunter Robinson, Ethan Nathaniel Evermon, Lindsay Grace Evermon, Natalie Jane Evermon, Madison Elaine Knuth and Richard George Knuth II. He is also survived by sisters and brother-in-laws, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.

As a professor of Textile Engineering at Auburn University, he shared his love of learning with countless students and made significant contributions to the field through his books and thirty-two patents.

“I only met David a couple of times, in relation to my purchase of his wonderful Lee County map, which depicts original Native American owners of land in our county. I can’t remember if he drew it, or if he was the one who did the research, but whichever, it is a treasure I have passed on to my grandson. I’m not surprised he has many patents to this credit.”
